A solo Sunday scramble with Freya.

Last Sunday, Freya and I headed up to the mountains early to hike East End of Rundle (otherwise known as EEOR). It would be our first scramble (i.e., a trail that involves both hiking & climbing over rocks) together—I wasn’t sure how it would go, given that Freya must remain attached to me on-leash and we have a very small weight difference (I am 43kg; Freya is 26kg). It was the steepest and most technical hike I have ever taken Freya on, but I’m happy to report Freya never sent me flying face-first into a rock.

There were a handful of sections where I would detach her leash for both of our safety, but I was so stoked at how well she did on this trail. She would nimbly and swiftly jump up on the rock ahead of us, but always waited when asked to wait, and always slowed down when I needed to be careful going downhill. I love having Freya’s companionship on all our adventures; it makes a day in the mountains all the more rewarding.
